Woman pleads not guilty to theft

A 25-year-old woman accused of stealing a quantity of cash from prominent attorney Valerie Neita-Robinson pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of $500,000 when she appeared in court yesterday.

She is Shaneka McKen from a Harbour View, St Andrew, address.

The accused was granted bail on condition that she surrender her travel documents to the police and report to the Harbour View Police Station every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

A stop order has also been placed at all ports of entry.

McKen is to return to the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on August 30 for mention as the file is incomplete.

Allegations are that the accused woman told the attorney that she wanted $520,000 to assist her with finding a job in Canada.

The court heard that she agreed to repay the attorney once she received employment.

It is alleged that the lawyer then transferred the money to the woman's account but later discovered that the money had been transferred to a debit account and used for other purposes.

The matter was reported to the police and the woman was arrested.
