Jamaican to be deported from Guyana

A Jamaican is to be deported from Guyana following his arrest in that country recently.

Brait Thompson, who was charged with illegal entry, pleaded guilty and was fined $30,000 when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrate's Court. An order of deportation was also made.

The allegations are that on July 23, the defendant entered Guyana illegally via speedboat through Springlands, Corentyne, from Suriname.

The court heard that Thompson did not get the consent of an immigration officer to enter the country.

Nevertheless, he told the court that he entered the country to see his daughter.
