A man succumbed to injuries received after being attacked and shot by a gunman on Hudson Street, Russia, in Westmoreland on Wednesday morning.

The Savanna-la-Mar police have identified the deceased as 44-year-old Paul Cooper, otherwise called 'Eugene', of Russia in the parish.

Information gathered is that at 4:30 a.m., Cooper was making his way home when he was pounced upon by a gunman who opened fire, hitting him all over his body.

Cooper managed to escape further injury and called the police.

He was taken to hospital by the police, where he died while undergoing treatment.

Our news team was told that the Savanna-la-Mar police are now actively pursuing a man who is believed to have committed the offence.
