J'can charged in Canada
Andre Williams, STAR Writer

A Jamaican national has been charged in Canada following a fatal traffic accident last week which claimed the life of another Jamaican, THE STAR has learnt.

Information reaching our news team is that the dead man, a farm worker, died tragically after the vehicle he was being transported in, lost control and overturned in a ditch injuring several other passengers in the process.

According to reports, the accident took place last Thursday in Pleasant Ridge, south west of Brantford, Canada.

Information gathered from guelphmercury.com follows that of the provincial police reports, the van in last Thursday's Brantford-area crash left the roadway, and rolled several times before coming to a halt.

The alleged driver, Safton Bailey, 34, of Jamaica, has subsequently been charged with criminal negligence causing death, failing to remain at the scene of an accident causing death and careless driving.

The deceased has been identified as 42-year-old Horace Clarke.

THE STAR understands that Clarke died last Thursday afternoon at the Hamilton Health Sciences Centre after being ejected from the van.

The other passengers in the vehicle, totalling nine, were treated for minor to serious injuries at Brantford General Hospital and released.

The driver was not hurt during the accident, and is awaiting his next court appearance.
