Rasbert Turner, Star Writer
Arthurine Lee looked away with a wry smile as she recounted her four-hour ordeal of being trapped in a flooded Bog Walk gorge yesterday. Still smarting from the incident, Lee sweated profusely as she recalled the hours in bushes. "We were going along the road when the car just started to float. We then realised water started to come in, trust me the faces of my children flashed before me," Lee said. Lee was among five persons travelling in a Toyota Corolla which got stuck in raging flood waters. "This is still very scary to me. I am still checking if I am still alive," Clay Foster, another passenger said. The Star was told that the group was coming from a party and heading towards Kingston about 4 a.m. when the incident occurred. The gorge had risen to 12 feet resulted in the Rio Cobre overflowing its banks, and dumping mud, tree trunks and debris on to the road. The flooding caused the authorities to close the gorge for several hours. When the area was visited police personnel were maintaining the peace while fire personnel conducted rescue operations. The car and it occupants were later freed, the debris cleared and the road reopened. |
