A man accused of impersonating the police pleaded not guilty and had his bail extended when he appeared in court yesterday. Prince Lewis appeared before Resident Magistrate (RM) Lorna Shelly-Williams in the Corporate Area RM Court. The court heard that on the day in question, the accused was driving a motor vehicle when officers conducting spot checks stopped him. It is alleged that when his documents were requested for inspection the accused produced an Identification Card (ID) and told the officers that he was a member of the force. The arresting officer said that when checks were made it was found that the accused was disbanded from the force in 2006. In defending himself, Lewis told the court that he joined the police force in 1987 and served as a district constable until 2006. He said that when he was leaving the force his ID was not taken away and that he uses it to prove that he was a member of the force. "I did not tell her I was a police, I told her I was a former police officer," he said. |
