BlackBerry thief pleads guilty |

|
A man accused of trying to steal a BlackBerry cellular phone pleaded guilty and was fined when he appeared in court yesterday. The accused, Trevon Newsome, appeared before Resident Magistrate (RM) Lorna Shelly-Williams in the Corporate Area RM Court. He was fined $30,000 or three months in jail. According to court documents, on the day in question, the complainant was standing along the intersection of Union Lane and East Street in downtown Kingston when the accused rode up on a bicycle and grabbed her handbag containing a BlackBerry phone. The court heard that the complainant fought with the accused and when he saw that he could not get the phone he rode off. Further, the court heard that the accused was later pointed out to the police. He was arrested and slapped with a charge of assault with intent to rob. |
