A 50-year-old St Catherine man was freed in the Gun Court on Thursday after two witnesses gave conflicting evidence.

He is Dennis Lawson of Hartlands district, St Catherine.

Lawson appeared before Justice Lloyd Hibbert who upheld a no-case submission made by defence attorney Sean Kinghorn.

Hibbert said the evidence of Special Constables Rayon Henry and Ralston Simpson were conflicting. The accused was then freed of the charges.

The Crown led evidence that on February 16, 2010, Lawson was spotted driving a Toyota Camry along Old Harbour Road. Lawson who was travelling with three other men was signaled to stop by the police.

The court was told that he disobeyed, pointed a firearm and shot at the party and sped off.

The police chased the vehicle which crashed in the Hopedale Housing Scheme.

He was subsequently charged with illegal possession of a firearm and shooting with intent.
