Jamaican woman accused of killing baby

A woman believed to be Jamaican has been held in the United States on accusation that she suffocated her newborn baby.

According to a Journal News report, 27-year-old Kadian Gilzeane reported to hospital workers that she suffered a miscarriage.

However, police say the woman killed the infant around 2 a.m. on August 3, at her North Ninth Avenue apartment in Mount Vernon.

Court documents suggest that Gilzeane went to the Mount Vernon Hospital Emergency Room about nine and a half hours after she allegedly killed the baby.

The police were called after hospital workers determined that she had given birth.

When detectives responded to her apartment, they breached the door and found the baby wrapped in plastic.

Authorities say an autopsy later revealed that the infant was a full-term, live birth.

THE STAR understands that Gilzeane, who has been charged with second-degree murder, is being held without bail.

It is further understood that she is to face deportation proceedings as she is in the country illegally.
