The Sunset Optimist Club of Kingston recently held a grand career fair and treat at the Mary's Child Home for Girls as part of its continued outreach effort with the home.

The group, which has had a long-standing relationship with the home, put on the fair in the hope of providing guidance and assistance to the girls at the home.

" These young ladies have been through many challenges, yet are still able to smile and look forward to what life has to offer. We cannot change their past but we can help to mould a better future for them. We have enjoyed every minute working with Mary's Child and look forward to continue supporting them whenever possible," said Shainee Myles, community service chair for the Sunrise Optimist Club.

The day's event saw teenagers from Mary's Child and Matthew 25:40 speaking with 12 participants from various career fields, including a teacher, lawyer, gynaecologist, nurses, and author just to name a few. There was also a representative from HEART Trust/NTA who advised the teens on the different training opportunities it had to offer.

Based on feedback from the girls, it was clear that they benefited from the fair.

The service club said they have had other fairs at the home in the past hosting themed visits with them including movie evenings, health and sexuality workshops and one-on-one discussions.
