André Williams, STAR Writer

The municipality of Portmore, St Catherine will be introduced to a 'Park and Ride' bus system as touted by Transport Minister Dr Omar Davies, THE PORTMORE STAR has learnt.

The Park and Ride bus service, our news team understands, is operated by the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC). It has been a popular mode of transport used by motorists to traverse during major national events. It involves motorists parking their vehicles and being transported from one location to their destination.

The service was also on offer during the recent Jamaica, USA World Cup Qualifier.

Transport Minister Dr Omar Davies reportedly said the service would facilitate motorists who wish to access public transportation.

The disclosure was made on September 7 by the minister, during the handing over of 10 buses to the security forces. He high- lighted the effectiveness of the 'Park and Ride' system during the Independence celebrations.

The transport minister added the ministry is moving to implement the system as part of the normal transportation from Portmore into Kingston.

In addition, Dr Davies pointed out that the ministry will provide further information on the proposed service in short order.
