Rasbert Turner, Portmore Star Writer A motion was tabled in the Portmore Municipal Council for resources to be made available to rid the municipality of mosquitoes after two residents were diagnosed with dengue fever recently. It has been revealed that two residents from the Waterford community have been hospitalised with dengue fever. This disclosure was made at the monthly meeting of the Portmore Municipal Council on Wednesday night. Councillor Fenley Douglas of the Waterford division asked for immediate intervention to deal with the problem. "I need to have the place fogged and the mosquito population be eradicated to make the residents feel secure," Douglas told The Portmore Star in an interview. Douglas said the mosquitoes have even curtailed extra-curricular activities at the Waterford Primary School. As a result, a motion was tabled by Councillor Renair Benjamin of the Westchester division that the Ministry of Health be petitioned for immediate mosquito eradication. Meanwhile, Mayor George Lee said spraying was a must to address mosquitoes which are plaguing the municipality. Richard Baker of the St Catherine Health Department said the municipality is being served with the limited resources available. |
