Accused pleads not guilty to abstracting electricity

A man accused of abstracting electricity from the Jamaica Public Service appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday, to answer to the charges.

Charged with abstracting electricity is Patrick Foster. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The court was told that the Crown is in possession of statements from both the police and Jamaica Public Service in relation to the allegations.

RM Georgianna Fraser explained to the accused that if he was found using electricity that was provided by the public service company, but could not show he had entered into an agreement with the utility company, then it was in fact an illegal offence.

A fingerprint order was made and Foster is to return to court to stand trial on November 19.
