André' Williams and Rasbert Turner, STAR Writers Retired Senior Superintendent Anthony 'Tony' Hewitt succumbed to his injuries in hospital last night after a Sunday afternoon gun attack at an apartment complex in the Red Hills Road area. Information reaching our news team is that Hewitt was shot four times in an incident which unfolded at an apartment on Donmair Avenue, Kingston 19, and had to be rushed to hospital for medical attention. The attack on the life of the retired cop has since been condemned by Police Commissioner Owen Ellington. In a release from the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN), Ellington urged investigators to work tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice. Hewitt was one of several top-flight retired police personnel recalled to duty by former Police Commissioner Lucius Thomas to help in the fight against crime in the last decade. He was one of the country's fiercest detectives in the 1970s to 80s during which time he apprehended several major criminals. |
