Then there were four. Two more contestants were eliminated from Digicel Stars on Saturday night, one week before making it to the finals. At the beginning of the show, host Terri-Karelle Reid asked judge Conroy Wilson, mentor of Team Pop, to share his views on why team gospel has been dominating the competition. Wilson replied that there were two reasons for this. The first being that team gospel did have talented members and secondly, many believed that if they vote against team gospel, then that means they are voting against Jesus. Koffy, mentor of team Jamaican sound was asked how it feels to have only one remaining contestant in the competition. He told the audience that DSL has shown improved growth and has found favour in the hearts of many female admirers. After recapping the performances from last week, Lawayne McLean, Sharona Jonas and Fallon Phillips were called to the stage to hear their fate. Fallon was not spared this week and was eliminated. "I want to say thanks to all who supported me and thanks to Conroy," a visibly shaken Fallon said. Her mentor had nothing but kind words for her, telling the audience that he will continue to work with her after the competition ends. After her performance, the cycle was once again repeated with the three males - DSL, Richie Bless and John Ross Austin called to the stage. The first to go through was Richie Bless and the host once again put the judges on the spot by asking them whether it was DSL or John Ross who deserved to remain in the competition. Conroy, Carlene and mentor for team R&B, D-Major, all agreed that John Ross has been more consistent throughout the competition and, therefore, deserved to stay. Koffy stated that he knows what his team member is able to deliver and, therefore, should be the one who remains. The host invited the audience to give a round of applause for the person who would be eliminated, after which John Ross' name was called. As he began walking off the stage, he was halted in his tracks by Reid who informed him that he was the one who was eliminated. The audience was left in shock and began voicing their disapproval. "It was a good experience. It's not the end of John Ross. Thanks to Digicel for a performing platform for me to minister to people, and thanks to my mentors," John Ross said. His mentor Carlene stated that she was surprised but not discouraged. "God has great plans for you," she informed John Ross. |
