André Williams, STAR Writer

A police corporal was gunned down last night outside his home in Patrick City, St Andrew, moments after his colleagues dropped him off from duty, THE WEEKEND STAR understands.

He has been identified as Corporal Warren Campbell.

Information reaching our news desk is that the corporal, who is attached to the Organised Crime Investigation Division, was shot dead by gunmen around 8:45 p.m.

Details from the Duhaney Park police are that the policeman had just been taken home from work by his colleagues.

Reports are that the lawman went back outside, reportedly to speak with a woman, when a group of men drove up in a car, opened fire, hitting him multiple times in his upper body.

THE WEEKEND STAR understands that the police were summoned to the scene by residents who heard loud explosions.

The corporal was rushed to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

fatal attack

Our news team understands that the female companion was not harmed during the fatal attack.

Unconfirmed reports are that the policeman's service weapon was not taken by the killers.

Sources who arrived on the scene claimed that a man, who was one of the first to arrive to the injured cop's aid, took up the policeman's weapon and later handed it over to the police. The police are asking anyone with information to come forward as their investigation continues.
