Following poor performances in mathematics by students in recent CSEC exams, an interactive learning website, Wizznotes.com has employed an online learning approach focused on alleviating the math problem that now exists.

Though the site offers materials in other subject areas including information technology and economics, among others, mathematics has garnered primary attention recently.

With the use of blogs and vlogs, the webpage provides problems and solutions to math problems from topic areas on CSEC syllabuses.

'Chat with Shaw' is a mathematics blog on the site prepared by math teacher and mechanical engineer Raffick Shaw.

It is designed specifically to help Caribbean users who are preparing for mathematics examinations at the Caribbean Examinations Council's CSEC level.

"The blog allows users to submit questions to our resident math tutor on a particular topic or question that they are experiencing difficulty with," Troy Reid, the website's co-founder, said.

At the same time, Shaw explained to THE WEEKEND STAR, that users have been taking advantage of the option to submit questions to him, which he responds to as soon as possible.

He said that, "we do our best to respond to the questions via email ... these are selective questions because we can't do all of them,".

He added, "The volume of questions is high at the time of exams and low otherwise,".

Shaw also said, "The aim right now is to do video solutions in the various exams ... over time, the volume of questions and solutions will increase,".

According to Reid, the website averages 150,000 hits a month, with users from over 185 countries.

He also revealed that these users spend approximately eight minutes per visit with visitors from Jamaica, Barbados, USA and Trinidad among other places.
