Veteran sportscaster steals show Veteran sportscaster Lance Whittaker from Sportsmax was the highlight at the weekly Smirnoff New Star Entertainment Karaoke held at Ken's Wildflower Sports Bar and Lounge last Monday. Whittaker took the stage and belted lyrics confidently, as any musical crooner would have done, which resulted in many seeing him in a different light. Whittaker received an encore after he delved into James Ingram's Give me forever. He, however, believed that his performance was 'average', by his standards. He was seen having a whale of a time with two adorable females who accompanied him to the entertainment hub. They, too, took to the microphone. Wearing a sexy black dress, Alicia touched the men's heart with her version of Love me by Yvonne Elliman, while Paula dedicated Barbara Streisand's There were also performances from some young beauties and a splendid delivery from songstress Candice, who lit up the venue with every note. Later, Candice was given two encores when she delivered a cover of Beyonce's one+one. Her sweet voice filled the night air, and cheers of approval echoed in the venue. Young singer Toby was given kudos for his R&B selection, Let me love you down, done originally by the group Ready for the world. Also giving contribution to the night's entertainment was MC Fresh, CEO of New Star Entertainment, with Culture Youth's Pass the dutchie; Miss P, with Great pretender, a Platters original; Troy Reid, with Dr Hook's Sylvia's Mother andLady Slim with Irene Cara's Flash dance. MC Shantillo with Nat King Cole's Orange colour sky and Michael, who did Kenny Rogers' Lady, were among the standout performers. There were others who tried to advance from bathroom singing to the scrutiny of the public and they received mixed reaction from the crowd.
