Man remanded for brother's death and injuring two |

Rasbert Turner, Star Writer A man who is charged with the death of his younger brother and injury of two other persons was remanded when he appeared in court on Thursday. He is Vernal Whyte, who allegedly chopped his brother Norval Plummer, 18, to death in June. When he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court, his attorney, Clive Mullings, told Resident Magistrate Vashti Chatoor that his client has been in custody for nearly three months and deserved bail. The RM replied that a verification of the accused address must be done for the question of bail to be addressed. Whyte was then remanded until September 27 when his case will again be mentioned. Used a machete Allegation are that on June 20 the accused was at home in Gregory Park, Portmore, St Catherine, when there was an altercation between the deceased and himself. During the dispute, he reportedly used a machete to inflict a number of wounds to the now deceased person. Two relatives intervened and were also injured by the accused. The three injured persons were taken to hospital, where Plummer was pronounced dead. He later turned himself into the Portmore police and was charged with murder and wounding. |
