4 COPS ARRESTED AFTER PRANK CALL
SHELDON WILLIAMS, Staff Reporter

Someone played a cruel prank on four members of the Island Special Constabulary Force (ISCF) on Saturday.

When the joke ended, neither they, nor members of the Anti-Corruption Branch(ACB) were laughing. Instead, the four members were left feeling embarrassed and demotivated, and the ACB pondering who was behind such a sick joke.

The prank took place on Saturday when officers from the ACB relieved the four ISCF members of traffic duties, and took them into custody following a prank call. The caller had alleged that the cops had demanded money from a motorist in lieu of a traffic ticket.

A police source who spoke on terms of anonymity told our news team that the incident has left the cops involved demotivated, embarrassed and discouraged.

"It is very sad and disheartening to know that this is what our members in uniform are now exposed to," the source said.

THE STAR understands that anonymous persons called police control and alleged that the four officers had solicited $20,000 from them for a traffic ticket.

Subsequently, the cops who were on traffic duty on Knutsford Boulevard in proximity to Emancipation Park, were taken into custody between 2:25 and 3 p.m.

They were thoroughly searched including their vests, clothing and car but nothing incriminating was found.

It is also being alleged that a female officer, who was among the group, was violated.

THE STAR understands that curious members of the public gathered at the scene while the cops accused of corruption were taken into custody.

"The names of the persons who called have not been ascertained and we don't know the intent nor the reason why this was done, as all the accused officers have outstanding characters. The police are now traumatised," the source explained.

The cop reiterated,"to date, nobody knows who called or if any proper recording was made."

A senior ranked member of the ISCF confirmed that he had been made aware of the incident through hearsay but has not received a formal report.

He informed us to direct further queries to the commander in charge of the New Kingston Police Post who was unavailable for comment.

THE STAR was unable to make contact with head of the ACB, Assistant Commissioner of Police Selvin Hay, as the cellphone numbers provided for him were not active.
