André Williams, STAR Writer The trial for five individuals accused of kidnapping a three-year-old boy from the Mount Alvernia Preparatory school in May 2011 was stalled last Wednesday morning in the St James Circuit Court. Information reaching THE STAR is that lawyers representing the accused told the court they needed more time to receive further instructions from their clients. Bail extensions were given and the new trial date set for today. The trial will be presided over by Justice Martin Gayle. Those charged are 22-year-old barber, Trevon Tomlinson of Cornwall Courts St. James address; 26-year-old guidance counsellor Jenise Regisford; a 17-year-old man and 23-year-old cabinet-maker, Jonathan Mitchell of Spaldings Manchester. THE STAR was told that a bench warrant was issued for Jonathan Mitchell who was not present when the case was called up, though the court was advised that Mitchell was allegedly travelling by bus from Manchester to attend the proceedings. Allegations are that on May 3 last year, the three-year-old son of a well-known businessman was kidnapped from his school in Montego Bay, St. James. An alarm was subsequently raised and following intense investigations by the police the child was found in Manchester a little over 24 hours later. |
