4 HURT, 1 DEAD IN BUS CRASH
Crystal Harrison, Staff Reporter

Tales of screams for help were not sufficient to save the life of a female student who was killed by a Toyota Coaster bus along Half-Way Tree Road last evening.

The incident occurred about 5:30 p.m.

Dead is 18-year-old Mellisa Thompson of Queensway, Willodene, St Catherine.

THE STAR understands that several persons were making their way along a pedestrian crossing in front the Victoria Mutual Building Society when they were slammed in a nearby wall.

It is reported that the female student died on the spot.

A total of four other persons were injured in the accident, including passengers on the bus.

THE STAR understands that the Toyota Coaster bus, which plies the Lawrence Tavern to downtown Kingston route, swung out of the back of a motor vehicle and collided in the pedestrians.

The driver of the bus at the time of the incident and the conductor reportedly fled the scene.

It is also reported that it was not the designated driver of the bus operating the motor vehicle at time.

"People did a bawl out and a scream fi help because dem di si what did a happen, and couldn't help demself. A dig dem did have to dig out one of the women out of the bus because the bus slammed several pedestrians in a wall. One of di woman dem drop out a di bus. A roll me si one a di woman dem a roll pan di road," a man who allegedly witnessed the accident told our news team.

Meanwhile, another alleged eyewitness told THE STAR, "It wasn't the designated driver was operating di bus at di time. Me get to understand that the real driver did hungry so him give mussi one loader man fi drive di bus. One a di time, mi si like di driver have him head down on di gear stick after im lick di people dem. It seem like di driver couldn't even stop di bus," a woman told us.

The St Andrew Central police are investigating the incident.
