PAULA GORDON, Staff Reporter One man is dead and his daughter in the hospital after their home in Zion, Trelawny, was firebombed on Sunday. The dead man has been identified as Donovan Hasley. Report reaching THE STAR is that angry residents converged on the premises in search the Hasley' stepson who they believe is responsible for the death of the two boys from the community. When they did not find him there, the house was firebombed and Hasley chopped to death. On Thursday, it was reported that the bodies of 10-year-old Alex Brown and seven-year-old Javani Brown were found in the Martha Brae River, days after they were reported missing from their homes. THE STAR understands the deceased man's stepson has also been accused of sodomising the boys. Meanwhile, the police yesterday appealed to the residents of Zion district, near Martha Brae in Trelawny, not to carry out any act of vigilante justice or revenge in connection with the death of the two boys from their community. appeal This appeal came against the background of Hasley's death which took place in the community. Head of Area One, Assistant Commissioner of Police Devon Watkis, is assuring residents that the police are conducting a thorough investigation, and are encouraging them not to take the law into their own hands. A post-mortem conducted yesterday concluded that death was caused by drowning. However, there are signs to indicate the boys may have been injured before they died. As a result, crime officer for area one, Acting Senior Superintendent Derrick Champagnie, has been assigned to head a team that will be conducting more in-depth investigations into the matter. |
