Cops shoot, injure colleague |

Rasbert Turner, Star Writer An investigation is under way in the St Catherine South Police Division after police personnel shot and injured a colleague. The bizarre incident occurred in Old Harbour Bay, St Catherine, yesterday, and resulted in the injuries of a policeman and a bystander. Reports are that about 2 p.m., a report was made to the police that a man was stabbed on the Old Harbour Bay Beach. unmarked vehicle A team of police personnel in plain clothes responded in an unmarked vehicle. It is further reported that a number of their colleagues in uniform also responded after. The unmarked vehicle with the policemen in plain clothes was spotted about 3:30 p.m, near the beach and was signalled to stop but the driver refused. A number of shots were fired on the vehicle injuring a man who was later identified as a policeman. A man standing nearby was also shot and injured. Both parties were taken to the Spanish Town Hospital where they were admitted. The Star was informed that the incident stemmed from a quantity of cocaine and money that was stolen from a boat on the Old Harbour Bay Beach about 6 a.m. yesterday. Meanwhile, residents said they were bracing for reprisals as the drug had to be accounted for.
