A team of police personnel in plain clothes responded in an unmarked vehicle. It is further reported that a number of their colleagues in uniform also responded after.

The unmarked vehicle with the policemen in plain clothes was spotted about 3:30 p.m, near the beach and was signalled to stop but the driver refused.

A number of shots were fired on the vehicle injuring a man who was later identified as a policeman. A man standing nearby was also shot and injured. Both parties were taken to the Spanish Town Hospital where they were admitted.

The Star was informed that the incident stemmed from a quantity of cocaine and money that was stolen from a boat on the Old Harbour Bay Beach about 6 a.m. yesterday.

Meanwhile, residents said they were bracing for reprisals as the drug had to be accounted for.
