Accused fake doc remanded

Derrick Palmer, the man who has been accused of pretending to be a doctor, was further remanded in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

He has been charged with dispensing drugs without the requisite licence and obtaining money by means of false pretence.

Palmer is to return to court on October 10.

Allegations are that, on the day of the incident, the accused convinced a female complainant that he is a medical doctor and collected $28,000 from the woman.

It is alleged, that when the complainant visited the accused, he gave her an injection, however the complainant saw no improvements in her health.

The complainant reported the matter to the police after failed attempts to get back her money.

arrested at his home

The court also heard that, when Palmer was arrested at his home, the cops found several pharmaceutical items.

The police told the court that, in 2006, Palmer was charged with a similar offence.

Attorney-at-law C.J Mitchell, who failed to get bail for his client, told Resident Magistrate Lorna Shelly Williams that his client has been in custody for several months and the cops are trying to prejudice the case.

In addition, Mitchell said that the pharmaceutical items that were removed from his client's home belong to two of his relatives.

The RM promised to consider bail on Palmer's next court appearance and ordered the investigating officer to verify the drugs that were taken from his home.
