WESTERN BUREAU:

A man who allegedly robbed a German tourist of her purse and several valuables at knife point is to undergo psychiatric evaluation before he returns to the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on October 22.

Olando Morris, of Glendevon in St James, entered a guilty plea to robbery with aggravation.

It is said that, on October 2, he robbed Julia Kartin of a purse containing $2,000, a cellular phone and a credit card.

When he appeared in court on Wednesday, the court was advised that Kartin and her family would be leaving the island that same day and so the case was dealt with speedily.

"Are any members of your family in Glendevon?" Resident Magistrate Sandria Wong-Small enquired.

"My grandfather, but him live around Dallas way," Morris answered.

"I suspect your grandfather doesn't want anything to do with you," the RM equipped.

"Me can't get a bail?" Morris asked. "Oh, no, you are not going anywhere," she replied.

"So I'm going to prison," remarked Morris. "There is a very strong possibility," agreed the magistrate.

"Okay, send me up, because that's why I come to court," the accused contended.

RM Wong-Small ordered that Morris remain in custody until October 22. She also ordered that he undergo a psychiatric evaluation in preparation for the next court date, and that his fingerprints be submitted to the police.

"They're going to bring you back to court on October 22," she advised Morris.

"But the white people are going away today," said Morris, prompting some laughter in the courtroom.

"It doesn't matter, because you already pleaded guilty," the magistrate answered, as Morris was then escorted out of the courtroom by a police officer.
