Alcoholic jeweller remanded for larceny |
|||||
![]() An alcoholic jeweller who admitted to visiting a bar and spending $80,000 on liquor that he earned from selling stolen jewellery was remanded until October 10 in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday. The disclosure astounded Resident Magistrate (RM) Lorna Shelly Williams who asked, "How do you go to a bar and spend $80,000 on alcohol?" Charged with larceny as a bailiff is Derrick Adjmul who was remanded to facilitate the intervention of the Drug Treatment Court. Adjmul, 44, told the RM that he had been an alcoholic since he was a young adult in his 20s. The court heard that Adjmul sold jewellery including a necklace and two bracelets that were given to him by a client to repair and used the profit to purchase numerous alcoholic beverages at a bar. |
