Rasbert Turner, Star Writer A bus driver who caused chaos by blocking the road after he stopped to let off passengers was fined $50,000 or 45 days imprisonment yesterday. Convicted of operating contrary to the road licence is Richard Mitchell of May Pen, Clarendon. During the trial, investigating office Constable Paul Banbury told the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court that on May 26 about 3:00 p.m., the accused was seen driving a Toyota Coaster. Upon reportedly reaching the intersection of Morrison Street and Burke Road, he stopped the vehicle in the road letting off passengers. His action caused a traffic pile-up which caused the police to intervene. He drove away, but was held by the police along Young Street. He was ticketed for operating contrary to his road licence. Mitchell had pleaded not on previous court appearances. Resident Magistrate Vaughn Smith told Mitchell that the evidence given by Banbury is believed to be accurate. He further reprimanded the accused for lying to the court. |
