Chad Bryan, Star Writer A Jamaica-born man, employed as a truck driver to Aberstar Fast Freight and living in Englewood, Chicago, Illinois, was murdered after he stopped to visit his brother, according to a report on www.chicagotribune.com. Dead is 39-year-old Gary Clarke. On Tuesday night, Clarke locked up the truck in an empty lot next to the home he was visiting when he was approached by a group of individuals, who demanded money, the report revealed. The brother of the deceased, Andrew Jackson, according to the report, stated that Clarke had told his attackers that he had no money but someone from the group pulled a firearm and shot at him. Jackson, 41, who was outside at the time of the shooting, is quoted as saying, "He started crying out for Jesus. When I heard him say that, I knew something was wrong," he said. The authorities found Clarke's body at about 8:15 p.m. in the truck. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in Chicago, but was pronounced dead soon after. The cause of death was listed as a gunshot wound to the hip. Up to Wednesday, no one had been held for the killing. Jackson lamented the loss, revealing that he had not seen his brother since February. He said they were both from Jamaica with Clarke only moving to Canada five and half years ago. Clarke began working as a chef, a talent he had developed while in Jamaica, but ultimately achieved his dream job - working in the trucking industry. Clarke is survived by his wife and a two-year-old son both residing in Canada, and a 17-year-old daughter residing in Jamaica. Clarke was scheduled to visit his family in Jamaica in November. |
