Stagnant water along Wellington Street in Spanish Town, St Catherine. - Rasbert Turner

Pools of stagnant water along sections of Wellington Street in Spanish Town, St Catherine, have not gone unnoticed by the parish council.

"It is a very horrible sight, there are trenches filled with dirty water, it's a condition that exists before business places, it's an eyesore," Deputy Mayor Ralston 'John' Wilson said.

Wilson, who was speaking at a meeting, said the situation is so bad that he hopes the St Catherine Health Department will investigate.

The senior local government representative in the St Catherine Parish Council said the situation is a potential health hazard.

When The Star visited the location, the pools of water which drew the councillor's attention were observed.

"Dem dirty water yah need fi sweep out a di gutter as if anybody step in it, dem must catch germs," a woman said while trying to pass the murky pools.

Meanwhile, a representative of the health department told The Star that the matter will be investigated.
