Nigerian in custody for fraud

A Nigerian man who remains in custody will soon know if his marriage will save him from being deported to his homeland after a fraudulent Jamaican stamp was found in his passport.

Aladenika Adebola from Cheapside, St Elizabeth, pleaded guilty to uttering a forged document.

Adebola, who is married to a Jamaican, was hauled before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.

Resident Magistrate (RM) Georgianna Fraser refused Adebola's bail on the grounds that he is presently without status in the country.

The court heard that the police are to continue their investigation to clarify if his marriage would be able to keep him in the country.

He is to return to court on October 18.

The court heard that the accused was arrested after immigration authorities found an inauthentic Jamaican stamp in his passport.

Adebola is being represented by attorney-at-law Ernest Smith.

Adebola's attorney who told the court that his client had an exemption certificate was unable to get bail for his client as the RM explained that illegal stamp in Adebola's passport may have affected subsequent paperwork.
