A woman accused of breaching the Cybercrimes Act after she was found to be in possession of a card-skimming device in a locked bag was hauled before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on October 18. The accused, Alicia Steele, charged with unlawful possession of data and device will return to the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on October 22, where it is expected that a trial into the allegations against her will be held. She was ordered fingerprinted. In court, it was revealed that the woman was entrusted with a locked bag containing the device, to keep in her house but did not question the contents of the bag. Resident Magistrate Lorna Shelly-Williams repeatedly pressed and enquired of the woman the reason for keeping a locked bag in her house that she was not suspicious of. Steele simply responded that she trusted the individual who had given her the bag. Subsequently, she was ordered to trial. |
