The St Catherine Co-operative Credit Union (SCCU) has continued its spirit of benevolence by giving a donation of cash to Charlemont Open Bible Church.

The gift valued at $50,000 was handed over at the launch of Credit Union Week on Sunday at the church in St Catherine. At the function which also commemorated the SCCU's 35th anniversary, general manager Sandra Thompson told the congregation that it was the culture to give assistance wherever it was needed.

"We want you to know there is always a need and the church is under pressure. Therefore, we gave a donation," Thompson said.

President Winston Fletcher told the audience that the launch which is under the theme "Members Matter Most" will be the way forward.

The 45,000 strong SCCU is set to continue the celebration with various activities throughout the week.

Reverend Franklyn King said thanks on behalf of the church and added that it was good that the spirit of compassion is still alive.

He said the money would be used in the church's outreach programme.

"We are grateful and certainly this is a wonderful gesture; it will be used well. The fact is we need more groups like these," Rev King said.
