|
National coordinator of The Jamaica Association of Transport Owners and Operators (JATOO), Egerton Newman, has been charged with fraudulent conversion. THE STAR was informed that Newman was charged by the Fraud Squad last week and has been summoned to appear before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on October 31. Allegations are that Newman collected $128,000 from a bus owner in February of this year on the grounds that he could secure a road licence for him to operate his bus as a public passenger vehicle. However, time elapsed and Newman allegedly failed to provide the licence and was also unable to provide the complainant with a refund despite numerous attempts by the complainant to collect his money. It is also being alleged that Newman was unable to account for the money. A report was made to the police, and Newman was charged. |
