Kintyre bridge repair delayed
Crystal Harrison, Staff Reporter

Repair work to the Kintyre bridge that runs across the Hope River, St Andrew, was delayed yesterday, due to persistent rainfall.

Our news team ventured to Tavern in the parish, just in time to see several heavy-duty equipment being taken into the area for repair work.

Over the years, the bridge has collapsed in instances of persistent and heavy rainfalls.

Residents were not greatly affected by Hurricane Sandy, however, they were without electricity and water.

The bridge was identified as the community's biggest problem especially for residents who live on the banks of the river.

"Nobody didn't flood out and dem ting deh or no house no wash away dis time. Di only incident mi hear of was dat a big boulder drop on a man and kill him in his house and don't really know much about dat incident. The Government need to give us a better bridge like di one at Harbour View," a man who identified himself as Richard said.

Another resident said: "Right now, wi a wait on the rain to ease off so dat we can do a little work. Wi ago clean up di river, meaning like removing some of the stones so dat the water can flow freely".

Meanwhile, an elderly man said he has the perfect solution for the broken bridge.

"The problem is that di boulder dem block up di channel dem and a dat a cause di river to overflow. For there to be a proper bridge, the houses on the bank would have to move, so they should do away wid di bridge. When dem move di bridge, the water can move freely when it rain but when di time dry, vehicles can cross same way," he said.
