Two men are now in custody after they were accused of engaging the police in a shoot-out in Greater Portmore, St Catherine.

Reports are that about 8 p.m., a police party was travelling in Greater Portmore when they noticed a Toyota Coaster that stopped to let off two suspicious-looking men.

Upon exiting the vehicle, the police said they were accosted but immediately brandished guns and began firing at the lawmen.

The police party took cover and returned the fire. The men reportedly fled, but during a search of the area, one was found with gunshot wounds.

He was taken for treatment at the Spanish Town Hospital where he was admitted.

A short time after, a man fitting the description of the other gunman, turned up for treatment.

Both men were taken into police custody on suspicion of breaches of the Firearms Act.
