GEORGE HENRY, STAR Writer
A Spaldings, Clarendon, teacher has become the latest victim of robbers who have reportedly been plaguing the community in recent times. The teacher was attacked and stabbed during a robbery at her home recently. She told THE STAR that she was sleeping, but awoken by the sound of a glass window being broken. Upon investigating, she realised a window in her room was shattered and she called the police. She then went outside to investigate. "I opened the door and looked to the side of the house where the window was, but I did not see anyone only that the window was open. I suspected the intruder was already inside the house so I quickly ran towards the gate and tried to pull the bolt, when I was attacked," recalled the teacher, who opted for anonymity. It is understood that the man grabbed her and they began fighting. During the fight, she was stabbed in her side, but she still escaped. "I managed to give the man one kick in his groin area and he backed off. That was when I managed to exit the gate and run on to the main road towards Spaldings town," said the teacher. The police accompanied her back to the house, but the robber had left. But not before taking a laptop computer valued at $80,000. The bleeding woman was later admitted to the hospital. The Spaldings police confirmed the incident and have expressed concern about the number of hold-ups taking place in the community. Residents also expressed concern. They said several persons, particularly women, have been robbed by knives and gun-wielding men and they are afraid to walk alone at nights. |
