|||||
Crystal Harrison/ Rasbert Turner, Star Writers Hookers along the popular 'Back Road' hip strip in Portmore, St Catherine, were not daunted last week by the lack of electricity experienced due to Hurricane Sandy, as they were out hunting for 'business' with flashlights and other portable lights. Due to Hurricane Sandy, a number of communities in Portmore were left without electricity, and, for the most part, residents stayed indoors because of the darkness. But that wasn't the case with the Port Henderson Road prostitutes as information reaching THE WEEKEND STAR is that with flashlights and even candles the women were still present on the strip hunting for customers. One motorist who was approached by the women in the dark said that he was taken aback at the desperate attempts being made by the prostitutes to do business. desperate or serious "Me a tell you dat mi did shock to know that di girl dem would still be out there with flashlights. All mi a tell you is dat is either dem desperate or dem tek dem work serious," the motorist said. "The women are very creative, dem use lighters, flashlights, candles and anything to defeat the darkness and do business," another citizen said. The Portmore police say they too have heard of the prostitutes' desperate measures. Meanwhile, the Jamaica Public Service (JPS), yesterday, revealed that close to 25,000 Jamaicans will still have to wait a while longer before their electricity is restored. JPS said that restoration work in Portland, St Mary and St Thomas is likely to continue into next week. |
