44-y-o faces drug charges |

A 44-year-old woman was brought before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court last Friday to answer several charges relating to breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
Charged with possession of, dealing in, taking steps to export and conspiracy to export ganja is Michelle Russell of a Corporate Area address. She pleaded guilty to all four charges and told the court she could explain. "Your Honour, someone offered me a trip and, true mi not working I took the offer,"she said The court was told that Russell was caught after trying to export the drugs to Trinidad. Allegations are that her luggage was searched and found to contain three pounds (1.36 kilograms) of marijuana hidden in containers packaged as fruit drink. The court was told that $14,000 was also found in her possession. RM Georgianna Fraser, after being advised by the prosecution, told the accused, "People don't have to bring drinks to foreign again. They are found everywhere. When you go to Connecticut, New York or Miami they are there." RM Fraser asked her a second time where she got the drugs and she replied, "A gentleman gave me the opportunity. I told him my situation and he said he could provide me with a job in the small island." Russell was ordered to give her fingerprints to the police and return to court for sentencing on November 16. Russell then uttered, "Your honour, can you sentence me now please? I don't like where I was being kept." RM Fraser replied, "No ma'am don't be in such a hurry to be sentenced." |
