Woman fined for stabbing

A woman who admitted to the court that she stabbed her former friend in a dispute over a thumb drive was sentenced in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Kimone Irwin, who pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding, was fined $25,000 or three months in prison.

In addition, she was ordered by Resident Magistrate (RM) Lorna Shelly-Williams to pay the complainant $10,000 for her pain and suffering.

Allegations are that on the day in question, the accused used a knife to stab the female complainant in a dispute over a thumb drive.

Irwin who demonstrated to the RM where she was hiding the knife on the day in question said, "Your Honour, I didn't plan to stab her and I don't always walk with a knife, but I asked her for my thumb drive and she didn't say anything."

The complainant told the court that she and the accused were friends for several years, and due to a conflict within their relationship, Irwin requested the thumb drive that she had loaned her.
