Cop shot dead

A police corporal was shot and killed by gunmen last night along Constant Spring Road in St Andrew, THE STAR understands.

Reports are that the lawman was shot and killed sometime after 9 p.m. along the busy thoroughfare.

Up to press time, his identity or the circumstances that led to his death were not known, as the police were said to be on the scene gathering evidence.

He is the second policeman to be killed since the start of the year. On September 20, Detective Corporal Warren Campbell, who was assigned to the Organised Crime Investigation Division, was shot dead near his home in Patrick City, St Andrew, while walking with his female companion. The policeman had just been taken home from work by his colleagues and went back outside, reportedly to speak with a woman, when a group of men drove up in a car, opened fire, hitting him multiple times in his upper body.

Two men, Glaseton 'Tyrone' Stephenson, an illegal taxi operator of Tropical Drive, Horizon Park, St Catherine, and Kemar 'Garlo' Hall, a mechanic of 1 Waterloo Close, Spanish Town, also in the parish, have since been charged in connection with Campbell's death.
