Cop on murder rap case delayed

The case involving Corporal Dwayne Smart, the cop charged with the murder of a pregnant woman in St Thomas, was delayed when it was mentioned in the Home Circuit Court on Friday.

A bail application for Smart is expected to be made next week Friday.

The court was informed on Friday that the ballistics report is outstanding.

Smart is charged with the September 1 shooting death of 27-year-old Kay-Ann Lamont in Yallahs Square.

It is reported that Lamont and the policeman got into an altercation after he attempted to arrest her for using indecent language.

During the scuffle, the pregnant woman was shot twice in the head, reportedly by the policeman.

Her sister was also shot and injured in the incident.

Attorney-at-law Valerie Neita Robertson is representing Smart.
