Vendor allegedly found with cocaine in DVD player

A vendor who was allegedly found in possession of 11 ounces of cocaine concealed in a DVD player on her arrival from Panama to Jamaica recently, was Thursday remanded in custody until November 22.

Leesue Bailey, 23, of Red Hills Road, is charged with possession of, dealing in, importing and conspiracy to import cocaine. She appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.

The Crown is alleging that about 2:30 p.m. last Saturday, Bailey arrived at the Norman Manley International Airport on a flight from Panama and was stopped, searched and interviewed by security personnel.

It is alleged that a black suitcase in her possession was searched and found to contain a black Panasonic DVD player containing an irregular-shaped parcel.

The parcel was searched and 11 ounces of cocaine reportedly found.

Bailey was reportedly cautioned and replied, "OK".

Mitchell, who is representing the defendant, argued that his client was given the gadget by her child's father and asked to take it to Jamaica.
