18-y-o BEATS girl FOR REP

A male student accused of assaulting a female student recently at school was hauled before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday to answer to the charges.

Charged with assault occasioning bodily harm is 18-year-old Andrew Watson.

The court was told that on the day in question, an argument developed at school between the two and Watson hit the complainant on the left side of her face causing swelling and bruising.

He entered a guilty plea and offered the court an explanation for assaulting the 15-year-old complainant.

Watson explained, "Your Honour, is because of some bad rumours. Rumours your Honour that will spoil my reputation."

The mother of the complainant told the resident magistrate that when she visited the school and saw Watson at the security post, his attitude was as if he had no remorse about the incident.

Resident Magistrate Stephanie Jackson-Haisley told the accused that there was no basis for him to have committed the offence.

Watson was placed on a probation order for two years as a result of his action.
