Police say threat level is extreme in St Andrew Central

Police personnel in the Corporate Area, especially in the St Andrew Central Division, are being advised that the threat level is now at extreme.

The Police High Command says cops are facing imminent attacks and should therefore exercise great care and pay special attention to their personal safety and the safety of colleagues.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the operations portfolio, Glenmore Hinds, the raising of the threat level follows yesterday's fatal shooting of Delroy Scott, otherwise called 'Banton', in Bedward Gardens.

Banton was the leader of the Banton gang which operates in the Bedward Gardens area of the St Andrew Central Division.

"Since the fatal shooting of Scott, police personnel in the area have been receiving repeated threats on their lives. These threats are being taken very seriously, hence the need to alert all members of the greater possibility of danger," DCP Hinds said.

The deputy commissioner said police officers stationed in the St Andrew Central Division and those travelling in the division should be extremely vigilant, whether on or off duty.
