Portmore United can go on goal spree

Mouracio Gordon - File

Defending Red Stripe Premier League champions, Portmore United, will be looking to feast on promoted team Cavalier when the teams square off at Ferdie Neita Park in Portmore this evening at 7.

Having dispatched Savannah - the first of the two promoted teams which defeated them in the first round - Portmore United will go after the other in one of four games on today.

Heading into the second round of the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL), revenge must have been on the minds of the Portmore United players as they remembered their position after the first two sets of matches - two losses and no points after two games.

While Cavalier, based on their form, should be much tougher opponents than Savannah, things do not look very good for them, as prior to Sunday's game Portmore United found it difficult to find the back of the net, but hit five against Savannah. Mouracio Gordon, with a double strike, tripled his season's tally, while Stephen Williams added another.

Cavalier, despite their recent results, have not been finding the net with any regularity, as their top scorer Claudius Blackburn has four, with Norman Bailey and Girvon Brown chipping in with two apiece. Mitchily Waul, a man expected to lead Cavalier's forward line, has only found the net once, and his team will need much more to get the better of Portmore United.

At Harbour View, the leaders are expected to profit from the disarray at Savannah, following the departure of coach Patrick Graham. Savannah have not won in their last eight games and Harbour View will want to register a big win and restore the joy to their disappointed fans following their end-of-first-round final loss. Jermaine Hue and Damion Harwood could enjoy themselves. Humble Lion could regain some pride if they manage to get the better of Arnett Gardens at Effortville, while Tivoli Gardens would welcome a win over the improved Montego Bay United.
