Chairman of selectors Courtney Daley says the decision to omit fast bowler Jerome Taylor from the Jamaica 14-man squad to next month Caribbean Twenty20 tournament in Trinidad and Tobago and St Lucia was unavoidable.

The 28-year-old Taylor, who has been recuperating from a back injury, was overlooked for the January 6-20 tournament, despite participating in the recently concluded national Twenty20 trials.

"He took part in the trials, but did not look himself," said Daley, who along with Robert Samuels and Delroy Morgan, coach Junior Bennett, and captain Tamar Lambert make up the national selection panel.

"He did not appear to be fully fit, and in Twenty20 cricket a team cannot afford any luxury. One over can change a game, and this is something we had to take into consideration when selecting squad."

The squad, which is without marquee players Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels, who are both down to participate in Australia Big Bash League, in the absence of Taylor, will be led in the fast bowling by Krishmar Santokie and all-rounders, Andre Russell and David Bernard Jr.
