Reportedly abused after telling man to do chore

A man who beat his former lover after she told him that the bathroom needed cleaning was remanded until January 10, at which point he is expected to know his fate.

Desmond Powell of a Corporate Area address is charged with assault at common-law and assault occasioning bodily harm. In addition, Resident Magistrate Lorna Shelly-Williams ordered that he gives his fingerprints to the police when he appeared in court yesterday .

The court heard that on October 12, Powell and his former lover became involved in a dispute after she reportedly told him that the bathroom needed cleaning. He reportedly told her he was no maid and the two ended up in a scuffle.

It is reported that the complainant was allegedly choked and pinned to a bed. It is alleged that the woman reached for a knife that was nearby but was disarmed. She managed to escape into the living room where another tussle ensued resulting in her being thrown to the floor and threatened.

The court heard that a neighbour calling out to Powell provided the complainant with enough time to escape in her bra and underwear.

It was later revealed in court that a second incident transpired in Half-Way Tree in which Powell accosted the woman, and threatened to kill her. Powell was subsequently remanded.
