Television sets, priced under or a little over $1 million have become a hot item for Jamaican consumers, THE STAR has learnt.

THE STAR understands that the '$1 million TVs' are going fast for their price and size.

It was discovered that PriceSmart has been selling the pricey items for sometime, both in store and online, however, a recent buzz has been created due to a recent Christmas catalogue published by Appliance Traders Limited (ATL).

ATL's, 75-inch Samsung Smart TV, which is an exclusive release of the Samsung brand, is being sold for $969,999 before tax.

THE WEEKEND STAR understands that ATL is one of the few retailers who is selling this particular size Samsung Smart TV.

Checks made with PriceSmart revealed that Jamaicans are regular buyers of the 80 and 90-inch TVs.

The 80-inch TV which is priced at around $500,000, and the 90-inch Sharp TV priced at $1,169,999 are both available either online or in-store at PriceSmart.

Apart from their huge sizes and hefty price tags, the TVs come with several features. The Samsung Smart LED TV comes with built-in WiFi, pop-up camera, full HD 2D and 3D as well as smart interaction. The 90-inch Sharp TV also boasts similar specs.

An insider from PriceSmart told us that at least one of the above-mentioned TVs is sold every month.

Meanwhile, Stacy Campbell, product manager at ATL, said that the 75-inch Samsung TV is an exclusive release, which has been available locally since around December 2.

"So far, we have sold one. There is a very limited amount of them in-stock. This TV has been pulling a lot of interest, whether because of its size or price. The stunning rose-gold coloured finish and super, super slim bezel, the framing around the screen, is most appealing," Campbell said.

Some of the other popular retailers told THE STAR that they have never stocked the million dollar TVs.
