Man accused of street sweeper's death gets bail

Bail in the amount of $300,000 was yesterday granted to the man who has been accused of brutally stabbing a 57-year-old street sweeper recently.

He is Everton Taylor, who appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.

Taylor has been charged with wounding with intent.

He is to return to court on January 21, when the matter will be mentioned as the file is still incomplete.

As a condition of Taylor's bail, he is to report to the police twice weekly.

On a previous court appearance, the court heard that the complainant told the police that she knew Taylor's family and he goes by the aliases 'Problem' or 'Problem Child'.

The prosecution said that the complainant has given a statement implicating him as her attacker.

It is alleged that on the day of the incident, the woman was stabbed while sweeping on Hagley Park Road in Kingston.

The court heard she was stabbed in her neck, head and face.

It is reported that the complainant ran to her nearby home where she was assisted to the Kingston Public Hospital.
